History

It was back in 1989 that CAMBI Ambulance service set up the CAMBI Dispatch Centre whose mission was to handle emergency calls and dispatch ambulance services in the Quebec towns of Beauceville, Saint-Georges and Thetford Mines, under the leadership of cofounder Mr. Pierre Paquet. At that time, there were four pioneering dispatchers capably performing their jobs at the head office of CAMBI Ambulance in Beauceville.

In 1990, CAMBI Dispatch Centre reaches an agreement with 13 local municipalities to answer their emergency calls and dispatch their fire departments.

In accordance with the provisions of the Act on pre-hospital emergency services (L.Q. 2002, chapter 69) CAMBI Dispatch Centre becomes CAUCA (Centre d’appels d’urgence Chaudière-Appalaches) in 1994.

In 1995, CAUCA management is very active in the Chaudière-Appalaches region and with great conviction promotes the establishment of a 911 service. Thus, one year later, in 1996, the municipality of Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon becomes the first to be served by 9-1-1 service by CAUCA.

In the following years, several other municipalities join the 9-1-1 service and entrust their call answering and dispatching service to CAUCA. Each year, the number of municipalities increases significantly.

In 2004, Mr. Paquet hands over the leadership of CAUCA to Mr. Richard Busque, as now almost 140 municipalities have joined CAUCA, requiring fulltime management.

In 2005, CAUCA establishes its own IT team, customer service department and full-time quality control system. This crucial step, under the leadership of new General Manager Mr. Daniel Veilleux, should allow the addition of other municipalities to lead CAUCA toward profitability and financial sustainability.

In the years 2008-2009, there are a few dozen municipalities joining CAUCA every month, and to such an extent that in 2010, over 350 municipalities are served by CAUCA.

Following the death of cofounder Mr. Richard Busque at the end of 2011, Mr. Daniel Veilleux is named General Manager and continues to implement the CAUCA business plan.

Today, there are more than 600 municipalities that partner on a daily basis with CAUCA in emergency call response.

An example of Quebec’s entrepreneurial success, CAUCA proudly guarantees its partners receive quality service as well as consistent evolution, even beyond expectations and standards.
